did snape literally ever do something just because it was the right thing to do and not because of his own self-interest or his love for lily
i mean i honestly don’t care at all if someone loves snape’s character as an anti-hero or something, go right ahead, goodness knows i have enough complicated faves of my own
but when people try to argue that snape was a better person than he was i have to majorly side-eye
This is actually sad to read. I mean, it’s not like I’m a huge philosopher but for god sakes, the world is not black and white. I’ve done things in my life because of my love/friendship for another people, and sometimes, those actions are the right ones to have, sometimes, I do what’s right and I damage some of the people I love most. Ethics is not a one way road. It Is doing what you think you should do not because it’s right or wrong, but because you know that it creates goodness in somebody’s life as opposed of doing something that’s going to hurt them. Snape did what he did for love, for the memory of the one he loved most, and maybe he could even put aside his hatred for harry because of love. Love makes people do good things, not the sense of righteousness. Remember Dumbledore when he said:
"Do not pity the dead Harry. Pity the living, and, above all, those who live without love.”
There it is. I’m sorry, but I needed to let this go of my chest. I hate when people bash characters that are so human and idolater the ones that are just “pure good” fantasies.
